Nagpur: A criminal on record, Nikhil alias Nikku Suraj Yadav (20) has been detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, DrugOffenders/Dangerous Persons, Video Pirates, Sand Smugglers and Persons Engaged in Blackmarketing of Essential Commodities (MPDA) Act by Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal on Thursday.
A resident of Ambe Nagar, Pardi, Yadav committed a string of serious offences over the past two years and cases were registered against him at Pardi Police Station. Despite initiating preventive action against him last year by the police under Section 110(e)(g) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, he continued indulging in criminal activities. Recently, he was involved in a case of attempt-to-murder in the Pardi area.
Pardi Police prepared a proposal to detain Yadav under the MPDA Act and forwarded it to the Crime Branch. After examining the proposal, the Crime Branch submitted the same to the Commissioner of Police who issued orders to detain Yadav under MPDA Act. Yadav, who is presently kept in Central Jail Nagpur, would soon be shifted to Yerwada Jail, Pune.
