In a big push to the healthcare sector, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday announced launch of a national National Health Protection Scheme which will benefit nearly 10 crore families.
Under the new scheme, families will be provided up to Rs 5 lakh per year for medical needs.
“We are now launching a flagship national health protection scheme that will cover 10 crore families. They will be provided upto Rs. 5 lakh. This is one of the largest healthcare programmes in the world,” Arun Jaitley said reading his fifth consecutive budget speech in Lok Sabha.
Apart from that, Rs 600 crore at the rate of Rs 500 will be provided to every TB patient every month, Jaitley added.
The government will also open 24 new medical colleges including upgrading a few existing colleges and ensure there is at least one government medical college in every state.
