Nagpur: In an ambitious move, Maharashtra Government has decided to open three schools of international standards in every district of the state. These schools will be government schools, said Principal Education Secretary Nandkumar on Sunday.
The Government has undertaken a drive for progressive education in all the districts of the state. “The Education Department has imparted special training to teachers of government-run schools and created ‘Techno-savvy teachers.’ These teachers themselves will make the drive a successful one,” Nandkumar said. The move aims to bring government school students on par with international education benchmarks. The state-run international schools will continue to offer education in vernacular/English medium. Institutions run by Tribal Development and Social Justice Departments will also be included in this scheme.
According to the Principal Education Secretary, the process of starting 100 international schools in the first phase has already been started. In the second phase, 1000 schools of international standards would be functioning in the state. The Education Department will take the responsibility of imparting the required training and create ‘Smart teachers’ for teaching in these international schools.
In the past few years, the number of students on the rolls of government schools has been declining slowly and steadily. The existence of government schools is in danger due to increasing trend among students to study in well-equipped private schools. And this is the major cause of concern for the State Education Department, Nandkumar stated.
