GP student kidnapped, taken near police HQ

Nagpur: A 17-year-old-student of Government Polytechnic was kidnapped for ransom by a goon on Monday afternoon and taken to a lake near police headquarters. However, sensing opportunity, the student freed himself fromm the clutches of his kidnapper and informed the cops who swung into action and arrested the kidnapper.

Police said that the accused, Osama Rafique (24) is a resident of Shani Apartments, Anant Nagar. He has a criminal bent of mind. Osama usually lurks around Government Polytechnic at Sadar and is in the habit of bullying innocent students. Apparently, he came in contact with the student.

As per the statement of the student, Osama forcibly picked him up on a motorcycle from Government Polytechnic. He took him to a lake near police headquarters where he held the student captive for some time. Osama then snatched his mobile and thrashed him black and blue in a bid to intimidate him. He then demanded 10.000 from the student and asked him to call his friend to get the money.
The student called his friend from the mobile of Osama and urged him to bring 15,000 telling him that he is in deep trouble and needed the money immediately. The student asked his friend to bring the money at an isolated place in the bushes near the lake. The friend arrived at the scene with the money.

Meanwhile, one of the friends of the kidnapped student named Dominic had also seen him being forcibly taken away by Osama. He too reached near the lake. Seeing two of his friends at the spot, the student got the courage to free himself from the clutches of his kidnapper and ran away. He narrated the entire incident to his family. The family members then lodged a complaint with Gittikhadan police which immediately swung into action and arrested Osama. He has been sent to police custody remand.
