Gram Panchayat polls: SEC allows filing of nomination forms offline

Nagpur: After receiving complaints of problems with online submission, the State Election Commission (SEC) has allowed the nomination forms for Gram Panchayat (GP) elections to be submitted offline. Also, it has extended the deadline for submission of nomination forms till 5.30 pm on Friday.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLC and State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had raised the matter with UPS Madan, State Election Commissioner, on Thursday. Bawankule urged the SEC to allow the aspirants to submit their nomination forms through offline mode. Also, the BJP State chief urged the SEC to extend the deadline for submission of nomination forms till December 3, considering the problem with the server.

Taking cognisance of the issue, Madan issued the directions allowing the aspirants to submit the nomination forms through offline mode. He also extended the deadline for submission of forms till 5.30 pm on Friday.

The SEC had announced the schedule for election of members and direct election of Sarpanch to 7,751 GPs. Accordingly, the nomination forms were to be submitted to the administration during November 28 and December 2. The aspirants were asked to submit the forms through online mode. However, due to server problems, many aspirants could not submit the forms till 3 pm on Thursday.
