Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Green Vigil Foundation have put up an environment awareness stall at Nagpur Mahotsav being organized at Yashwant Stadium Nagpur. The main aim of the effort is to educate citizens on environmental issues and to show case various activities being undertaken by NMC & Green Vigil towards environmental sustainability. Members of Green Vigil Foundation discussed with citizens various initiatives like Poornima Diwas campaign aimed towards energy conservation, lakes & rivers conservation & rejuvenation campaigns including immersion of idols in artificial tanks during festivals, environment education at NMC schools, contribution of common man towards environmental sustainability, water conservation, rain water harvesting, keeping city clean and so on.
The response from citizens towards environment protection and sustainable development has been enormous, explained Kaustav Chatterjee, Co-Founder GVF. In just two days, more than 400 citizens have taken oath on following Green Living practices and keeping city clean, he added. The best part was to interact on environmental issues with War Heroes of 1965 & 1971, exclaimed over joyed Kalyani Vaidya, Project Co-ordinator.
Dr. Kavita Rattan, Founder President, GVF stated this is a wonderful initiative by Nagpur Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Green Vigil, not only to engage citizens for the four day long cultural fest but also to address key environmental concerns, so as to ensure higher stake holder participation and awareness on environmental sustainability and green living practices.
