Nagpur: A Head Constable (HC) attached to Wathoda Police Station in Nagpur city was arrested red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The accused was identified as HC Ramnath Choudhary (50).
According to ACB, the complainant in the case had floated a layout in the Wathoda area a few years back. He sold a plot to two people. As both owners were claiming their right on the land, the matter came to the police station for investigation. The accused Head Constable Choudhary was the investigation officer (IO) in the case. He called the layout owner and threatened him with stern police action. He later demanded a Rs 1 lakh bribe from the complainant to settle the matter.
Not willing to pay the bribe, the manapproached ACB and lodged a complaint against HC Choudhary. The ACB team verified the demand on Sunday morning and laid a trap. When the complainant approached accused Choudhary at Wathoda Police Station at 7 pm, Choudhary took him to a tea stall where he accepted the bribe. Within moments, a team of ACB nabbed Choudhary with the cash.
A case under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Wathoda Police Station against the accused.
The arrest was made under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) ACB Rakesh Ola.
