Nagpur: On the final day of the Winter Session of the Legislative Assembly, a heated debate erupted between the ruling and opposition parties over the proposal to move a breach of privilege motion against Sushma Andhare in the Legislative Council. Despite Andhare not submitting a written apology within the stipulated eight days, the Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council, Neelam Gorhe, indicated that permission to file a breach of privilege motion against her would be granted.
Neelam Gorhe went on to say that not conducting an inquiry into the authenticity of the allegations is not appropriate according to parliamentary procedures. Therefore, if Andhare fails to submit a written apology within the specified eight days, an order allowing the filing of a breach of privilege motion against her will be issued, Gorhe stated during the session.
As a result, Andhare is now expected to issue a public apology, and all eyes are on the developments surrounding this matter. Congress MLA Ravindra Dhenge accused Neelam Gorhe of not allowing him to speak on the matter, a claim refuted by BJP MLA Praveen Darekar.
Dhenge clarified that he has no connection with the Legislative Council, yet he was kept uninformed about the proceedings. Hence, he made an appeal to allow him the permission to file a breach of privilege motion against the allegations made by Andhare. The Speaker, Gorhe, has a video on the matter, and it is reported that a Shiv Sena spokesperson has also made similar allegations.
In response to these accusations, Darekar said that if such a motion is made, it should be considered seriously, and a breach of privilege motion against the opposition should also be allowed. In this context, even Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar emphasized the seriousness of the issue. He cited the quote, ‘Joseph Goebbels was a master of the technique.’ If the Speaker is involved, then it is not appropriate, he added.
Home Minister R.R. Patil’s decision to ban dance bars in the state saw criticism from the Dance Bar Association, whose president Manjeet Singh made statements against R.R. Patil. Although I did not support them, I did raise objections against the decision, he said. He also added that they had received a 90-day education on the issue. He further stated, ‘Today, social media is highly expanded. The Democracy Day celebration is being held. In such a situation, serious consideration should be given to this matter. Therefore, a committee should be formed to conduct a thorough investigation, and this information should be communicated.
