Nagpur: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past week has severely impacted Vidarbha, leading to flood-like conditions in Chandrapur, Amravati, and Gadchiroli districts. The Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert on Saturday for heavy rainfall in these three districts—Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli.

In addition to these districts, the Meteorological Department has also forecast heavy rain and issued Orange Alerts for eight other districts in Maharashtra, including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Raigad, and Satara. This year, the monsoon arrived in Vidarbha a week later than usual. June saw no rainfall, and early July experienced only minimal rain. However, the last few days of July brought heavy showers.

The relentless downpour has caused significant damage to agriculture, submerging farm ponds and destroying crops such as cotton and soybeans. This has led to substantial losses for farmers in the region.
