Nagpur: In a mesmerizing display of artistry and culture, the legendary Hema Malini enthralled 25,000-odd audience at the Maha Sanskruti Mahotsav in Ramtek on Friday. Her portrayal of Sita in the dance ballet served a treat of rich heritage and tradition of Indian mythology, along with a troupe of 54 talented artists.
The dance-drama was presented on the first day of the State-level Maha-Sanskruti Mahotsav that was inaugurated at Ramtek in Nagpur district. Hema Malini, who played the role of Sita, won the hearts with her grace, expressions, and presence on stage. The dance-drama depicted scenes from the epic ‘Ramayan’ including the birth, childhood, and education of Shri Ram, ‘Swayamvar’, 14 years in exile, and victory over Ravana in Lanka.
The artists in the dance drama won a loud applause from the audience that packed the Nehru Maidan in Ramtek on Friday evening.
The performance, divided into two parts, unfolded the epic tale of Sita’s life, starting from her incarnation, marriage to Lord Rama, and their journey into the forest. The first part culminated with the Van Gamana, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating the second half.
In the second part, Hema Malini, adorned in exquisite costumes, delved into the narrative’s depth, presenting episodes such as Kewat Prasang, Bharat Milap, Surpanakha Prasang, Swarn Mrug, Sita Haran, Jatayu Sanhar, Sugriv Milan, Lanka Dahan, Setu Bandhan, War, Lanka Vijay, Sita Milan, and Ayodhya Aagman.
The audience was transported into the mythical world as the dancers expertly depicted iconic moments. The musical brilliance of the performance was heightened by the compositions of late Ravindra Jain, complemented by the soulful voices of renowned singers Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthi, and Sushil Kumar. The seamless coordination of Natya Vihar Kala Kendra, led by Hema Malini herself, brought the entire production to life.
A huge stage has been erected at the venue. The play started with ‘Ganesh Vandana’. Hema Malini, who is known as ‘Dream Girl’,and her troupe delivered one of the most memorable dance performances at Ramtek. Bhushan Lakhandri directed the drama.
A 52-foot tall replica of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and a ‘Yajna Kund’ erected at the venue attracted the attention of the people. The entry to the five-day festival is free. Various grand cultural events are lined up during the festival, which will conclude on January 23. The Directorate of Cultural Affairs, in coordination with the district administration, has organised the five-day‘ Maha-Sanskruti Mahotsav’.
Krupal Tumane, Member of Parliament from Ramtek; Adv Ashish Jaiswal, MLA; Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector; Saumya Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad; Harssh Poddar, Superintendent of Police (Rural); Khushal Jain, Deputy Commissioner; Prashant Sawai, Deputy Director (Tourism); Vandana Savrangapate, Sub-Divisional Officer of Ramtek; Hansa Mohane, Tehsildar; Pallavi Raut, Chief Officer of Ramtek Municipal Council, and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
On January 20, the cultural extravaganza continues with Suresh Wadkar and his group presenting a performance featuring a repertoire of Hindi and Marathi songs. The Maha Sanskruti Mahotsav stands as a testament to the vibrant cultural tapestry of the region, fostering a deep connection with tradition and mythology.
