Nagpur – The Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) has confirmed the presence of alcohol in Bhushan Lanjewar’s blood, despite a 48-hour delay in sending blood samples for forensic tests. Lanjewar was involved in the hit-and-run incident near Dighori Toll Booth on Sunday night.

The delay in the submission of blood samples led to the suspension of Wathoda Police Station Senior Inspector Vijay Dighe. Local media reports suggest that this delay may have caused damage to some samples, resulting in no alcohol trace being found in the blood of three individuals.

Lanjewar and his five friends — Vansh Zade, Atharva Patrikar, Atharva Mogre, and Hrushikesh Choube — are currently behind bars. The RFSL provided the blood sample report to the police within 24 hours of receiving the samples, marking the first instance of such a rapid turnaround.

Three individuals, including Lanjewar, had alcohol in their blood samples. Lanjewar’s blood alcohol content was approximately 35mg per 100ml, exceeding the permissible limit of 30mg per 100ml, according to the report.

Confirming the development, senior police officials said the RTO inspection of the car was also conducted.

Police had earlier said all six persons, including Lanjewar, who was driving the car, had consumed alcohol at Sher-e-Punjab hotel on Outer Ring Road, within the limits of Hudkeshwar police station, before setting out for a joyride. The group was enjoying liquor and the joyride as part of the birthday celebrations of Vansh Zade, who is also behind bars along with the others.

The car had climbed the footpath and rolled over the sleeping members of the extended families of the Bagadiya clan.

The blood samples, which were handed over to cops by GMCH early on Monday morning, were submitted to RFSL on Wednesday due to the delay by Dighe, who has been replaced by Senior Inspector Seema Datarkar.

The toll in the case has gone up to three now, with 3-year-old Haseena Bagadiya dying at Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday.
