Nagpur: A bomb threat at Ganeshpeth Bus Terminus sent Nagpur cops in a tizzy on Monday. However, no explosives were found even after hours of extensive search.
A letter was found by one of the passengers which stated that a bomb was planted in the Gondia-bound MSRTC bus in the afternoon. The letter lay under the passenger’s seat. After going through the contents of the letter, the passenger immediately alerted the bus driver. Soon, the bus was evacuated and police were informed about it.
Staff from Ganeshpeth Police Station arrived at the bus terminus. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was summoned. The BDDS checked the bus but no explosive device was found. The BDDS then checked the entire bus terminus and confirmed the bomb threat was a hoax.
It may be recalled that in February this year, a mysterious looking object traced to a driver’s cabin in a State Road Transport Corporation bus from Gadchiroli depot triggered panic in the busy Ganeshpeth bus depot, before bomb disposal and anti-terror squads, Intelligence Bureau and anti-Naxal personnel took charge and whisked way what looked like a tiffin-bomb to defuse its contents.
However, the suspicious object later was found to be a fire extinguisher. While police clarified it was a fire-extinguisher can commonly found in buses, initial findings claimed it was PETN-based explosive which ‘exploded’ when a bomb disposal squad tried to defuse it.
