Nagpur: The evergreen song reverberated at every nook and corner as thousands of Nagpurians celebrated Holi in high-pitched note in Orange City on Friday. This year the Festival of Colours – a token of social harmony and togetherness — was celebrated amid a sharp dip in Covid-19 cases and without restrictions. The festival saw restricted celebrations last year due to the pandemic.

With the first sunrays, kids and youngsters hit the streets in hordes and roared Holi Hai. They smeared gulal and bright colours on each other marking the beginning of day long celebrations. The day was also marked with sumptuous feasts and dancing. On the eve of the festival, people also lighted large bonfires to symbolise Holika Dahan the triumph of good over evil.
Last year, the Distriuct Administration had banned large gatherings on Holi as Covid cases soared across the country. Infections have since come down drastically and restrictions have been eased everywhere.Elated revellers celebrated Dhulivandan – Holi –in all its glory. People were elated the pandemic hasn’t spoilt their Holi plans this year.
As the moment of colours drew, the enthusiasts in large numbers started thronging every nook and corner in the city. Kids, armed with an array of different pichkaris, pumped colours and even plane water on each other.
Bura Na Mano Holi Hai was the buzzword. The Pichkaris that could turn the kids crazy with themes like Spiderman, Doremon, Chhota Bheem, Batman and many more. Many revellers donned scary masks and also with ‘faces’ of popular personalities.
However, Holi celebrations were under the watchful eyes of police. Thousands of police personnel were keeping an eye on the Holi revellers to maintain peace and law and order in the Second Capital of Maharashtra. A posse of cops was deployed at important places in the city from Thursday noon itself.
