Indorama mishap: Injured employee dies during treatment in Nagpur

The company has given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of deceased Kanhaiyalal Ramteke in addition to the statutory benefits

Nagpur: An employee injured in the explosion at Indorama Synthetics (I) Pvt Ltd, located at five-star Butibori MIDC, died during treatment in a private hospital in Nagpur on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Kanhaiyalal Ramchandra Ramteke (43 years). He was a resident of Lakhandur, Bhandara district.

It may be recalled that the first incident took place on March 21 at 12.10 pm when welding work was going on. Four employees got burnt due to sudden fire in this incident. Three employees were injured in the second incident that took place around 5.30 pm on March 22. Kanhaiyalal Ramteke was one of the injured. The condition of another employee also remains critical.

Senior Manager (Administration) of Indorama Synthetics (I) Pvt Ltd Riyan Paul expressed regret over the incident and said that the company is committed to making drastic changes in its health and safety facilities. The company is in contact with the families and colleagues of the injured employees to provide the best medical care and meet all the needs of the injured. The company has given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of deceased Kanhaiyalal Ramteke in addition to the statutory benefits, he said.

Reports said that raw materials worth crores have been devastated in the mishap. However, the exact estimate of the loss is still being assessed.
