Injured T53 tiger released in Pench after recovery

Nagpur: T53 tiger which was injured in a territorial fight in Deolapar Range last month in Pench Tiger Reserve, was released by the Forest Department into the wild on Tuesday morning. The forest team released the big cat into the East Pench range after receiving treatment in the Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur.

On May 17, the Forest Department received information about an injured tiger at Compartment No 509 of Khursapar beat in Deolapar range. RFO East Pench, Vivek Rajurkar and veterinarian Dr Nikhil Bangar rushed to the spot. It was observed that the tiger was injured severely and needed immediate treatment. Hence, the tiger was captured via chemical immobilisation and sent to Gorewada in Nagpur for further treatment and recovery. As of present date, the tiger has recovered and hence fit to be released in its natural habitat as per the report given by the concerned veterinarians.

The tiger was released near the forest where it was captured one month ago. The release was monitored by PTR Deputy Director Dr Prabhu Nath Shukla along with Pooja Limbgaonkar, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Anti Poaching Unit, Pench Tiger Reserve; Vivek Rajurkar, Forest Range Officer, East Pench, Piparia; Abhijit Ilamkar, Range Forest Officer, Deolapar and veterinarian Nikhil Bangar.
