Inter- varsity youth festival ‘Indradhanushya’ from Jan 22

Nagpur: The 13th Maharashtra State Inter-University Cultural Festival ‘Indradhanushya ‘ will be inaugurated on Friday, January 22.

The festival is celebrated by all 19 universities in the State of Maharashtra in rotation. This year Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has got the opportunity to host the event and the preparation for the festival are in the final stages.

Economist and former member of Planning Commission Dr Narendra Jadhav will be inaugurating the cultural event at Dr Vasantrao Deshande hall at 11 am.

‘Indradhanushya’ provides platform for portraying cultural talents of the students and today it is one of the most popular Youth festivals consisting various cultural events. Every year ‘ ‘Indradhanushya’ is held at various universities between November 5-9. This year RTMNU got the opportunity to host the event.

However, since, November was the diwali period and university examinations are also there. It was decided to postpone the event by two months so that maximum participation from the students could be there. Hence, the Governor’s office was requested to postpone the the event and the same was approved by the Governor taking in cognizance on the concerns raised.

As per the new schedule, the event will be held from January 22-26. Those who will be prominently grace the inauguration function are vice- chancellor Savitribai Phule Pune University Dr Vasudev Gade, vice- chancellor Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University Dr Mohan Khedkar, vice-chancellor Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit Univeristy Dr Uma Vaidya, vice-chancellor of RTMNU Dr S P Kane and pro vice-chancellor of RTMNU Dr Pramod Yeole. Meanwhile, joint secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyapeeth Sanghatan Dr Samson David will be the chief guest of the valedictory function on January 26, district collector Sachin Kurve and police commissioner S S Yadav will also grace the function.

More than 800 students from 20 universities of the State will participate in the cultural event. RTMNU is leaving no stone unturned to make the event a grand success. The lodging and food arrangements are organised at MLA hostel. 24 different cultural competitions will be held in the Indradhanushya. All these event will be held in 4 different cultural halls in the city.

These include Dr Vasantrao Deshpande hall, convocation hall and two halls of MLA hostel. Nearly 1.10 crore fund have been approved by the Governor for this event.
