Nagpur: Is it sabotage or total inefficiency of MSEDCL bosses? This burning question is causing immense frustration among the residents of South Nagpur, particularly in Akash Nagar, Awdhoot Nagar, and nearby areas. These residents have been enduring relentless power outages for hours every day, a torment that has persisted for over a decade, according to numerous long-term inhabitants of these areas.
The situation has reached a breaking point. MSEDCL bosses appear to be either astonishingly incompetent or willfully ignorant of the chronic power cuts that plague these neighbourhoods. This gross negligence is inflicting untold suffering on vulnerable groups such as newborns, children, the elderly, and patients. The thought of deliberate sabotage by MSEDCL officials, who might derive perverse pleasure from the residents’ misery, cannot be dismissed outright.
For the past ten years, the residents of South Nagpur have been living a nightmare. Power cuts are not an occasional inconvenience but a daily ordeal that disrupts lives, hampers productivity, and jeopardizes health and safety. The erratic power supply has become a source of tremendous anxiety and frustration.
The MSEDCL’s failure to address these issues raises serious questions about the capabilities and intentions of its leadership. Are these power outages a result of sheer inefficiency, or is there a more sinister motive at play? The consistent nature of these power failures suggests a level of neglect that borders on criminal. It is unacceptable that the responsible authorities have allowed this situation to continue unchecked for so long.
It is imperative that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Energy portfolio, takes immediate and decisive action. As a representative from Nagpur, he has a direct stake in the well-being of these communities. The residents of South Nagpur deserve a reliable power supply and a resolution to this decade-long crisis. They are calling on Fadnavis to investigate the matter thoroughly, hold the responsible parties accountable, and implement lasting solutions.
The residents of Akash Nagar, Awdhoot Nagar, and surrounding areas have suffered enough. It is time for the MSEDCL to be held accountable for their actions, whether due to incompetence or sabotage. The Deputy Chief Minister must prioritize this issue and ensure that the power supply is stabilized. The people of South Nagpur deserve better, and it is the duty of their elected officials to deliver.
Meanwhile, residents across Nagpur are grappling with fluctuating power supply which is causing inconvenience as the scorching summer heat intensifies. Reports have emerged of coolers not functioning at full capacity when put on ‘Top’ speed, which can be attributed to inadequate power supply to cooler motors.
Investigations reveal that due to the surge in power demand, households in some areas are receiving only 170 to 200 Volts of power supply during the night, which is lower than the required minimum of 230-240 Volts. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is also facing challenges in meeting the escalating demand. The increased load has put immense strain on the electrical infrastructure which led to incidents of transformer failures reported across various areas.
Notably, the peak demand for the city reached a staggering 756.25 MW on May 20, 2024, marking a major increase compared to the previous year’s peak of 711.9 MW on June 15, 2023. The repercussions of this power crisis are visible, with several areas experiencing frequent power outages during both day and night.
A total of 33 power transformers failed between April 20 and May 23. During this period, the city witnessed a total of 75 power outages, affecting various subdivisions. Hudkeshwar Sub Division bore the brunt with 13 forced outages lasting 1,125 minutes, followed closely by Manewada Sub Division with 12 outages totaling 1,615 minutes.
