Nagpur: ‘Metro Neo’, a project by Maha Metro has caught everyone’s attention in the city. There were reports doing rounds that the project would be implemented in Nagpur too.
However, after speaking to Maha Metro officials, Nagpur Today learnt that the project will be implemented in Nashik and not Nagpur. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that the BJP-Sena government intends to pilot a “Metro Neo” system in the city.

The Maha Metro officials also said that there is no plan as such to have a project like this in Nagpur as it is suitable for smaller cities. Metro in Nagpur is being used by a huge chunk of population and hence is not needed here. They added that the phase 2 of the metro will soon be implemented in the city which will be a copy of phase 1 metro.
What is Metro Neo?
The ‘Metro Neo’ is a trolley bus system with overhead electric traction and rubber tyres, and has the capability of being upgraded to a light metro system. The implementation of Neo can be done in cities having a population of up to 20 lakh, in which Nashik is the frontrunner.
