Is this Central Govt anti farmer?

Does this Govt really care for farmers or is it indulging in anti farmer practise? This is the question that the Federation of Tamil Nadu Agriculturists Assn. is asking citing Government’s policy of importing Potatoes and onions worth Rs. 500 crores though these crops are grown aplenty in India. Onions mostly in Maharashtra’s Nasik area and potatoes in UP, Himachal Pradesh and most of northern India.

Sugar too is being imported though no shortage of Indian made sugar has been reported.

The question to ask is, if so much is being imported, why are prices of vegetables still so high in the retail markets? Why aren’t the benefits being passed on to the consumer?
