Jail admn starts shifting of infected inmates to separate barracks

Nagpur: As the cases of novel coronavirus are increasing in Central Jail of Nagpur, the jail administration has started shifting positive patients in the separate barracks.

A total of 21 jail inmates have been tested positive for COVID-19 so far. Of them, nine are active patients, while remaining patients have been discharged, Central Jail officials said. The infected jail inmates are showing mild to severe symptoms of COVID-19 and they are immediately shifted to separate barracks, said Jail Superitendent Anup Kumre.

The ailing patients are being treated by special teams of doctors and regular RTPCR tests are being conducted for the symptomatic inmates, he said. Similarly, regular medical check-ups of the prisoners are also conducted to prevent further spread of the virus.

Around 240 inmates were infected by coronavirus in the second wave last year. The infection rate among the prisoners is quite less as compared to last year, said a Jail official. Jail administration stressed on maintaining COVID19 guidelines.
