Nagpur: The Nagpur Police team, on Monday, interrogated the jailed gangster Shreyas alias Tejesh Pujari from Mangaluru, who is lodged in Belgaum jail, on charges of extortion. A team of Nagpur Police arrived in Belagavi and spoke to the jail authorities. Belagavi City Police assisted them in the inquiry. The police interrogated Pujari thoroughly on Monday.
Police said the undertrial accused is said to have called the landline telephone of Gadkari’s Public Relations office at Khamla in Nagpur at 11.25 am, 11.32 am and 12.30 pm on Saturday. The caller said that he called on behalf of underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim and demanded Rs 100 crore else the Minister would be murdered. The caller also stated he was calling from Belagavi in Karnataka, police added.
The accused reportedly denied having made the calls, police officials said. Pujari was identified by the police on the basis of the phone number which was shared by the caller himself. Similarly, the police also checked the phone number used to dial the BSNL number of Gadkari’s office. The threat calls were received on the BSNL landline of Gadkari’s public relations office on Saturday.
Pujari reportedly told the telephone operator that he was a ‘D-gang’ member and demanded Rs 100 crore from the minister. He also gave the details of the spot in Karnataka instructing the operator to deliver the parcel consisting of cash. Later, he threatened to kill Gadkari with a bomb, police said. Pujari also gave his mobile phone number to the operator to contact him.
Karnataka CM assures thorough investigation:
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said his government will thoroughly investigate the case pertaining to the threat call to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari from the Hindalga jail in Belgaum. “The call was made from Hindalga jail. We are getting the entire thing investigated. We have taken the matter very seriously,” Bommai said. The Chief Minister also said they would do a background check of the person who made the call.
