Job-seeking engineer duped of Rs 11.35 lakh in Nagpur

Nagpur: Three cyber criminals orchestrated a job fraud and duped an engineer, who was desperately looking for a job, of Rs11.35 lakh, Pachpaoli police said.

The victim, Ashish Manohar Warudkar(33), a resident of Quarter No 99, Adarsh Vinkar Colony, Tandapeth, had lost his job during the pandemic and was actively seeking new opportunities. Ashish came across a Facebook advertisement for a position at L&T Company in Nagpur and Mumbai. The fraudsters, identified as Shashank Shekhar Mohapatra, Vivek Ranjan, and Rajkumar Gupta, claimed to represent the company and assured Ashish a job offer.

To proceed with the bogus application, the scammers coerced Ashish into depositing a “processing fees” of Rs 11.35 lakh in instalments within a month in various bank accounts they provided to the victim. They even sent him an appointment letter. Eventually, when Ashish visited the company premises, he discovered the fraud and reported the incident to the police.

A case was registered under Sections 420, 465, 468, 471 and 34 o fIndianPenal Code read with Section 66(d) of Information Technology Act.
