Nagpur: A dispute over a chair between two lawyers escalated to the point where a junior lawyer struck a senior lawyer on the head with a chair on the sixth floor of the Nagpur District Court on Monday. As a result, Senior Advocate Wasant Umare sustained a serious head injury.
According to eyewitnesses, Advocate Wasant Umare arrived at his designated chamber and found a junior lawyer already seated there. Upon seeing this, Advocate Umare became agitated and promptly ordered the junior lawyer to vacate the chair. The junior lawyer took offense at this and an argument ensued. The situation quickly escalated, and without warning, the junior advocate lifted the chair and struck the senior lawyer on the head. This caused the senior lawyer to sustain a head injury and begin bleeding.
Subsequently, fellow advocates promptly arranged for medical treatment for the injured senior lawyer. The name of the junior lawyer accused of the attack has not yet been disclosed.
It’s noteworthy that despite the construction of a new building for the district court, the problem of inadequate seating for lawyers due to the increasing number of advocates has persisted for several years.
