Nagpur: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Kalamna Police Station, who escaped an ACB trap for a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, has been booked and is being hunted. The accused ASI has been identified as Rajesh
Singh Thakur. The accused ASI allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh bribe from a dal (pulse) trader for sparing him in a cheating case. In fact, the accused ASI Thakur had pocketed the bribe of Rs 2 lakh but was demanding another Rs 2 lakh from the trader.
According to details, the accused ASI Rajesh Thakur was tormenting the pulse trader from Washim frequently in a cheating case. The trader was brought to the Kalamna Police Station and was subjected to the harassment. The tainted cop demanded Rs 2 lakh bribe to leave the trader off the hook. The pulse trader, to escape to the harassment, paid Rs 2 lakh bribe to the accused ASI Thakur. But the accused wanted more and subsequently demanded another Rs 2 lakh from the trader to hush up the matter. Fed up with the ordeal, the trader approached the local unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and lodged a complaint.
The matter reached the Commissioner of Police S P Yadav and Joint Police Commissioner Rajwardhan who ordered booking of the accused ASI. Acting on the trader’s complaint, the ACB sleuths planned to net the bribe seeker ASI and laid a trap in Suryanagar, Pardi. However, the tainted cop, sensing the trouble, escaped from the spot leaving behind the bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh. Since then he is absconding. The ASI Thakur has reportedly moved the High Court here for an anticipatory bail, said sources.
