Nagpur: Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal sparked a controversy today by appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to add photos of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi in the new currency notes.
The chief minister also claimed that by putting the photos of the deities on the currency notes, the ‘economy would get back on track.’ While addressing a press conference in Delhi, Kejriwal said that great efforts are needed to get the economy back on track but along with that blessings of our gods and goddesses are needed.
“On Indian currency notes…on one side there is the picture of Gandhi Ji…it should remain as it is…if we put a photo of Ganesha Ji and Lakshmi Ji on the other side, the entire country will get their blessings,” he said.
He also cited example of Indonesia and said that it’s a Muslim country with 85 per cent Muslims and only 2 per cent Hindus, but there is still a picture of Ganesh ji on their currency notes.
“I appeal to the Prime Minister that the pictures of Mata Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh Ji should be put on the newly printed notes also,” he further said.
