Nagpur: Khaparkheda, a hub of commercial activities and serious crimes, too, has made the town a fit case for inclusion in Nagpur Police Commissionerate on the lines of Kamptee and Hingna Police Stations. The rising crime graph and ‘goonda raj’ has put a question mark on safety and security of citizens of the town. The sensitive Khaparkheda town comes under Saoner-Kalmeshwar Assembly segment and its Police Station is set up at the last end of the constituency. A total of 26 villages of Saoner, Kamptee and Nagpur Talukas come under Khaparkheda Police Station jurisdiction. Most importantly, the Police Station deals with two major power stations, coal mines, small-big industries and a population of over 1.5 lakh. The town witnesses murders, robberies, dacoities, deals of lethal weapons such as mauzers, desi kattas (country-made pistols), running of gambling dens, coal smuggling, gang wars, illegal sand trade, bootlegging, prostitution, rapes and other crimes on regular basis. Police role in dealing with crime situation is under cloud.
In recent days when crimes related to attacks on common citizens or policemen or business community and the weapons used for the attacks several mauzers, desi kattas, guns were seized from the arrested culprits involved in the crimes. However, the moot question is: From where these lethal weapons are brought and how the anti-social elements get them so easily? Police as well as common people have got information that the deadly weapons have been sold openly in vast areas of Khaparkheda. If police swoop on these areas seizer of large cache of arms and ammunition could not be ruled out. But it needs police action which is lacking.
After merger of Old and New Kamptee Police Stations and Hingna Police Station into Nagpur Police Commissionerate the law and order situation in the areas has shown improvement. The day DCP Abhinash Kumar took reins of these police stations, crime chart has nosedived.
Citizens of Khaparkheda have now demanded merger of its Police Station into Nagpur Police Commissionerate and an end to ‘goonda raj’ and with it peace in the area.
