Khasdar Krida Mahotsav from May 13 to 28 in Nagpur

Nagpur: The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav could not be organised in Nagpur for two years. But this year the festival is being organized from May 13 to 28. It is estimated that 42,000 players will take part in the festival this year. “We are trying to include as many sports events as possible in the festival and the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav will produce world class players,” said Gadkari.

He was speaking during the festival’s ‘Flag Distribution Programme’. Gadkari further said that the sports festival is aimed at spreading the sportsmanship of the players all over the world and also to make Nagpur famous in the world. Gadkari said, “Take out the mobile phones from the hands of children in every household and send them to the grounds for games. This will improve their health and personality,” he stressed.

The sports festival will run for 15 days and will feature sports competitions at 46 venues. A team of 1064 players will come to the festival and 42,000 players will participate in the sports festival. 9237 competitions of various sports events will be held and 560 trophies will be given to the organizations. 7830 medals will be awarded. The cost of all this is Rs 1. 37 crore, he added.

The Khasdar Krida Mahotsav is being held from May 13 to 28. Nagpur has 131 playgrounds. Attempts are being made to build 350 more grounds. The grounds which are ready will be provided with electricity and water connections. These grounds will be handed over to the people in the area who can maintain them well. But children should play on the field every morning and evening, advised Gadkari.

The Union Minister appealed to all MLAs, MPs, ZP members, and Corporators to prepare such grounds in their area. The ground should be protected from encroachment. Nagpur should be the sports capital. Good players should be produced in the city, Gadkari added.
