Kidnapping of Six-Month-Old Baby from Nagpur Railway Station: Accused Woman Arrested in Narkhed

Nagpur: On Thursday, a woman kidnapped a six-month-old baby from the central railway station in Nagpur, causing a stir in the area. The accused managed to escape, making it challenging for the railway police to track her down. However, within 24 hours, the railway police apprehended the woman from Varud village in Narkhed. The process of bringing the accused and the baby back to Nagpur is underway.

Lalita and Umakant Ingle, aged 30, are residents of Rajura in Amravati district and work as daily wage laborers. They have two children: a five-year-old and the kidnapped six-month-old named Ram. Lalita is mentally challenged. Frustrated with household issues, the couple decided to go to Gondia on Wednesday evening. At Badnera railway station, a woman approached them, engaged in conversation, and found out they were heading to Gondia. She claimed she was also traveling to Gondia.

The group reached Nagpur station at 1:45 AM on the Pune-Hatia Express and decided to wait on platform 4 for the morning train to Gondia. Around 3 AM, Umakant brought samosas for everyone, and they chatted until 4 AM before falling asleep. At 7:30 AM, Umakant noticed that the baby Ram was missing from Lalita’s arms, and the woman they had met was also gone. The couple searched the station with their five-year-old but couldn’t find them. At 9 AM, they reported the incident to the railway police through the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Using CCTV footage, the railway police identified and located the woman within 24 hours. In an interview with ‘Nagpur Today,’ Railway Police Inspector Manisha Kashid confirmed the arrest and stated that the woman is being brought to Nagpur, where she will be formally charged.
