Kids keep waiting as no school bus runs today in Nagpur, Few schools declare holiday

Tuesday’s fog filled morning saw a great number of school children stranded on their school bus stops as the school bus remained off roads in view of the strike called by operators. Most of the school buses did not ran on Monday also while the operators warned of complete strike on Tuesday to protest against the RTO action against the school buses not complying with new safety norms.

The parents had the hard time waiting for the buses and eventually transporting their wards to school through their own conveyance. However, few schools have decided to keep closed in view of the possible inconvenience. Narayana Vidyalayam and Bhavan’s Ashti have announced holiday for Tuesday for no show of school buses.

On Monday, the RTO officials caught hold of around 22 buses from various schools. The van operators too faced the action following which they also followed non-operation on Tuesday.

During the RTO action most of the school buses lacked on various counts as per the revised safety norms which were enforced in view of rising cases of school bus safety flaws leading to even death in few instances. Permits of large number of buses were found to have expired long before while most of the other buses do not have properly secured mechanism in place. Most of the buses do not have four side bars and sufficient staff on board.

Parents are of the view that action is justified but it should not come at the cost of their wards’ schooling especially at the time when final exams are inching closer.
