Nagpur: Established in 1956, Tehsil Police Station is one of the oldest and most sensitive areas of Nagpur City and currently led by Senior Police Inspector (PI) Jayesh Murlidhar Bhandarkar (a PSI of 1993 batch).
Tehsil Police Station operates with 143 staff members along with 12 officials. Tehsil Police Station comprises four beats — CA Road, Mominpura, Timki, Shahid Chowk and Jangla-Budhwari Beat under its jurisdiction. Besides, Mominpura — city’s most sensitive area — Tehsil Police jurisdiction comprises Ganjakhet (Electric Market), Shahid Chowk (Market area), Bharat Mata Chowk and Vidarbha’s largest Kabristhan.

Police Inspector Jayesh Bhandarkar, Tehsil Police Station Nagpur City
Speaking to Nagpur Today, PI Jayesh Bhandarkar ascertained the story behind how Tehsil Police Station got its unique name, “After Independence this area comprised several government offices inducing tehsil area, owing to same people started referring it as Tehsil Police Station,” PI Bhandarkar informed.
He also discussed several preventive measures conducted by Tehsil cops to curb irregularities in the area. This has proved pivotal in reducing crime in the area and between and as a result Tehsil Police didn’t report a single murder between January 2020 and May 2021, the PI mentioned.

In a bid to keep to budge the gap between society and police, PI Jayesh Bhandarkar has already shared his personal mobile number – 9823052100 — with the locals and has advised them to directly call him in case of any emergency or if anyone wants to share any secret information. Their anonymity has always been protected, he assures.

“Riddled with several sensitive points and market areas, constant policing is essential under Tehsil Police Station. Owing to same we’ve deployed cops on every nook and corner. This has not only helped us, in ensuring feel of safety among citizens due to our the strict vigil of our beat marshals, Tehsil Police have averted three murders,” PI Jayesh Bhandarkar said.

Significance of Local Interactions:
Apart from Shantata Meetings, Mohalla Meetings, and Senior Citizen Meetings to hear their grievances, Tehsil cops make sure to interact with citizens, local corporators, social workers and business owners to acknowledge their queries. Tehsil Police participate in several seminars and awareness campaigns organized by school, colleges in the area to interact with students. This helps us to spread awareness among the youngsters,” said PI Bhandarkar.

Preventive actions to curb irregularities in the area:
“Owing to flourishing irregularities in the area, Tehsil Police have launched organized crackdown against hardcore criminal, illegal liquor and gambling businesses in the area under the supervision of CP Amitesh Kumar and DCP, Lohit Matani. Tehsil cops have slapped four MPDA, externed seven goons and also nabbed two absconding MCOCA accused. Apart from this, constant vigal at Mominpura area have helped Tehsil Police to register a significant drop in anti-social activities in the area,” PI Bhandarkar said.

“Installing CCTVs isn’t enough, one should also maintain sufficient storage of the recorded footages. We’ve often seen people tend to keep maximum a week long data, this has to change. Besides, I would like to urge citizens to be alert citizens and approach us whenever you find anything suspicious,” PI said.
