Nagpur: Acting on a secret input, Lakadganj police busted a sex racket and arrested a gang of four persons including a woman pimp. The gang was operating from Ganga Jamuna (Red Light) area of the city and pushing needy girls into the flesh trade surreptitiously.
The arrested accused are Arti Arjunsingh Bediya (37), resident of Ganga Jamuna and the mastermind of the sex racket, Shashi Thakur, Guddu Thakur (45) and Sheikh Yunus Sheikh Inayatullah (30), all residents of Hasanbagh. The modus operandi of the gang was they would lure needy girls residing in Ganga Jamuna area, take them to outskirts of the city and push them into flesh trade according to the “demand.” The key accused Arti Bediya would take the girls to Darodkar Square on CA Road and from there another accused Guddu Thakur would transport the girls in his Qualis car (MH-15/S 8348) to ‘clients.’ Lakadganj cops got information about the sex racket and they laid a trap. During the trap, the cops netted all the four accused.

The four accused were booked under sections of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) and placed under arrest.
It may be recalled that the DCP Abhinash Kumar had undertaken an effective drive against brothels running in Ganga Jamuna area and subsequently, many dens were sealed. But the key accused Arti Bediya devised a new modus operandi and operated the oldest trade outside the limits of the infamous area. However, Lakadganj cops, who were tipped off about the new tactics, acted swiftly and busted the sex racket on February 1.
