Nagpur: The interstate liquor mafia kingpin, Ashok Chelani, whose consignment worth Rs 42 lakh was seized around a month ago, has been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act by the Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar this week.
Chelani was on the run for several weeks after his consignments were seized. The Crime Branch nabbed him a week ago. Offences were registered against him at different stations.
Gangsters detained under MPDA:
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has also detained notorious gangsters Shashank Satish Sakhre and Sumit alias Tinya Narendra Sakhre under Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA).
Shashank, hailing from Jaripatka, faces charges including attempted murder, burglary, theft, and threats. Sumit, residing in Mhada Colony, Kapil Nagar, is implicated in serious crimes such as attempted murder, preparation of robbery and extortion. Both accused have been placed behind bars with the detention orders.
