Nagpur: In a first in the State, a notorious liquor smuggler has been detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) by Nagpur police, acting on the appeal by the State Excise Department.
Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal detained the notorious liquor smuggler and illegal liquor seller, Rajesh Rambachchan Chandel, under the stringent MPDA on Wednesday.
Chandel (42), a resident of Jagdish Nagar, was lodged in jail. This marks the first such action in the State. Offences were registered against Chandel at Gittikhadan Police Station. Despite preventive action initiated by the police, Chandel continued the liquor smuggling activities. Several cases of liquor smuggling have been registered against Rajesh, including manufacturing of country liquor and illegal sale of country liquor. On the appeal of Excise Department officials, CP Dr Ravinder Singal detained Chandel under MPDA Act.
