Nagpur: In what can only be described as a miraculous escape, Headmistress Swati Kayarkar of Zilla Parishad Chichala School in Bhiwapur, near Nagpur, narrowly avoided a potentially catastrophic incident when a call on her mobile phone prompted her to move away from her desk just moments before disaster struck.
As Kayarkar stepped away from her desk to answer the incoming call, a ceiling fan suddenly detached and collapsed to the ground. The fan landed precisely where she had been sitting just seconds before, causing the glass top of her table to shatter upon impact. The falling debris from the ceiling’s concrete structure, where the fan had been originally hung, added to the chaos in the room.
A group of 17 students from Standard VI were present in the headmistress’s cabin at the time, as their usual classroom was undergoing repair work. The students, startled by the sudden and terrifying turn of events, let out loud shrieks of fear.
Kayarkar, who still seems shaken by the close call, commented on the incident, stating, “There were 17 students of Std VI studying in my cabin. I had brought them in because some repair work was being done in their classroom. Fortunately, none of the kids was injured, while I escaped with minor bruises on my hand due to the shattered glass top of my table. I think it was divine intervention.”
The incident highlights the importance of quick thinking and the role of chance in life-threatening situations. For Headmistress Swati Kayarkar and the students at Zilla Parishad Chichala School, it was indeed a moment of providence that averted what could have been a major tragedy.
