Nagpur: Passengers in Nagpur-Mumbai Vidarbha Express had a lucky escape on Sunday as alert loco pilot applied emergency brakes on noticing missing tracks in the Kasara Ghat Section of Mumbai Division of Central Railway, a report in a local daily said.
The report said the Train No. 12106 Vidarbha Express that left Nagpur on Saturday was on its way to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) when the train crew came across damages to the track embankment. This was attributed to landslides in the aftermath of heavy rains that has disrupted movement of long distance trains on Mumbai-Howrah route.
Train No. 12140 Nagpur-CSMT Sevagram Express that left Nagpur on Saturday was short terminated at Devlali Station and returned back to Nagpur. The train could not move forward as the route was submerged and it was at risk to start train operations. The railway team was on the spot getting information about the heavy rains and its repercussions.
After slogging out in heavy rains for hours, the railway manpower opened the route for train movement and priority was given to local trains. Hence long distance passenger carrying trains were short terminated near Nasik Railway Station and returned back to resume their journey.
Train no. 12139 CSMT-Nagpur Sevagram Express short originated from Nasik Road on Sunday. Similarly, 12105 CSMT-Gondia Vidarbha Express was re-scheduled ex CSMT at 22.15 hrs on Sunday. As to 12289 CSMT-Nagpur Duronto Exp, it was also re-scheduled ex CSMT at 00.10 hrs, 12322 CSMT-Howrah Exp rescheduled ex CSMT at 00.30 hrs both on July 8.
As per Central Railway communiqué, heavy rainfall occurred in Kalamboli-Panvel area on Sunday morning. This resulted in water logging at Kalamboli station. About 111 mm of rain was recorded between 5 to 9 am that resulted in water logging due to which both Up and Down traffic was suspended from 10.30 hrs to 12.05 hrs.
