Mumbai/Nagpur: The state police geared up to prevent any untoward incident during the proposed Maharashtra tomorrow on the occasion of August Kranti in support of Maratha reservation on jobs and education. The bandh is given by various Maratha organisations.
In view of earlier violence across the state during the protests of Maratha organisations, the Maharashtra police made an elaborate arrangement in all sensitive districts to prevent any kind of violence during the stir.
According to available information, the Union home ministry has already provided additional security forces to the state. The state had demanded 15 companies. However, the Centre sent seven — six of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and one company of Central Industrial Security Force.
Besides the strength of around 2-lakh police personnel, including the SRPF, a seizable number of Home Guards would also be deployed in different areas in the state to maintain law and order situation.
The Western Maharashtra, particularly in Pune district and Marathwada region as well as Navi Mumbai and Thane near Mumbai had witnessed maximum violence during the Bandh called by Maratha organisations last month.
The state police will allow people to stage protests peacefully. However, if anyone indulges in violence activities, the security forces would be tougher against such element this time.
Meanwhile, in view of the bandh schools and other educational institutions are likely to be closed tomorrow.
