Nagpur/Mumbai: Maharashtra Resident Doctors Association Calls for Indefinite Strike Over Unmet Demands
The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors Central (MARD) has declared an indefinite strike starting from 5 PM on Thursday, citing unresolved issues concerning the living and working conditions of resident doctors. This marks their second strike of 2024, with approximately 8,000 resident doctors expected to participate across the state.
The decision to strike follows previous attempts by MARD to address their grievances through dialogue. Despite repeated assurances from the government, including the postponement of previous strikes, the demands of resident doctors regarding better accommodation, stipend increases, and arrears clearance have not been met.
Key Demands Include:
Improved hostel accommodation.
Increment in stipend.
Resolution of pending arrears.
Dr. Abhijit Helge, President of MARD, expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to address their legitimate concerns despite repeated appeals. He emphasized that the decision to strike was made reluctantly after exhausting all avenues of communication with the authorities.
Emergency Services Remain Unaffected:
MARD has assured the public that emergency medical services will continue uninterrupted during the strike to ensure essential healthcare provision.
