Historic Movement as Gaddigodam Bridge Crossed for the First Time
•MD Dr Brijesh Dixit Inspects Project Work During The Ride

NAGPUR : In one of the major landmark, a maiden ride was conducted between Kasturchand Park to Automotive Square Metro Station today (29th March). For the first time, the recently constructed Giant Gaddigodam Bridge by Maha Metro Nagpur was crossed. Incidentally this is also the first time that the ride was conducted on the fourth layer of the multi-layer transport system on the stretch, which runs parallel to Kamptee Road.

The maiden ride was held at a height of 24 meters from the road level. Incidentally this ride took place after Maha Metro had successfully launched 85 meter long and 800 tonne heavy Girder at Gaddigodam on 4th February 2022. The Girder, in fact is part of the robust Gaddigodam Bridge, weighing 1,650 ton and which is part of four-layer transport system, located near Gurudwara on Kamptee Road.
Maha Metro MD Dr Brijesh Dixit, who did the maiden ride inspected the project work on the entire stretch of the route from Kasturchand Park to Automotive Square Metro Station. Dr Dixit inspected the work at Gaddigodam Girder and also the progress of various aspects of the Metro work like Track, Over Head Equipment (OHE) all along the corridor between the two Metro Stations.
MD Dr Dixit expressed satisfaction at the work progress during the first ever such ride on the CMV. Almost 99 % of the project work has been completed, he said and added that remaining work on the stretch would soon be completed and this maiden ride would pave way for the CMRS inspection, which would ultimately signal starting of commercial services on this stretch.
The Director (Projects) Shri Mahesh Kumar, Director (Rolling Stock & System) Shri Sunil Mathur, Director (Strategic Planning) Shri Anil Kokate, Executive Director (Traction) Shri Giridhari Paunikar, Executive Director (Track) Shri Naresh Gurbani, Executive Director (Traction) Shri Rajesh Patil, Executive Director (Operation) Shri Uday Borwankar, General Manager (Operation) Shri Sudhakar Urade, Chief Project Manager (Reach-II) Shri Prakash Mudliar and other Maha Metro officials accompanied the first ever inspection ride.
The maiden ride also signifies the completion of track work on the either side of the Bridge and also over it. This marks a significant step in the direction of starting operations in Reach-II in the near future. The ride was held with the help of Maha Metro’s Catenary Maintenance Vehicle (CMV).
CMV is a unique multi-purpose vehicle which helps in studying a range of issues. It is used for Over Head Equipment (OHE) maintenance, monitoring of various parameters of OHE. Crane is also part of CME, which is used for installation of heavy equipment like Automatic Tensioning Device (ATD), OHE portals etc.
The stretch from Kasturchand Park to Automotive Square includes Gaddigodam, Kadbi Square, Indora Square, Nari Road Metro Stations. The 1.6 km long section between Sitabuldi Interchange and Kasturchand Park was opened for passenger service, along with the two stations of Zero Mile, Kasturchand Park and the Zero Mile Freedom Park on 20th August 2021.

It may be recalled that Maha Metro had successfully launched 85 meter long and 800 tonne heavy Girder at Gaddigodam on 4th February 2022. For the first time such a gigantic task was executed in Nagpur.
It is worth mentioning that the task of launching girder was gigantic and challenging not just because of the nature of work involved, but also because of the various constraints at work site. The entire location is very narrow and is lined by Gurudwara and various commercial establishments on its four sides. Thus the task had to be completed keeping all these constraints in mind. The road and the Railway-under-Bridge (RuB) there are part of the narrow location.
Kamptee Road is one of the busiest roads of city and the Metro corridor from Automotive Square to Kasturchand Park is lined by schools, colleges, banks, government offices, hotels, commercial establishments, shops etc. This makes the Kamptee Road not just very busy but also necessitates starting of Metro service along the corridor.
