Major security lapse: Man held for impersonating MP’s PA during Amit Shah’s Mumbai visit

Mumbai: A major security lapse during Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Mumbai has come to the fore. Mumbai Police have arrested one Hemant Pawar, a resident of Dhule in Maharashtra for impersonating Personal Assistant of an MP from Andhra Pradesh, according to media reports.

The reports said that the 32-year-old was also carrying an identity card of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). He was also seen outside the residences of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Mumbai Police had made elaborate security arrangements in view of the visit of the Home Minister, still, Pawar kept on loitering around the Home Minister and around the Malabar Hill area for hours.

According to the reports, when asked by the Mumbai Police, he said that he was an officer of the Union Home Ministry, but later he left. When CRPF officials informed the Mumbai Police that the man was a suspect, he was arrested through a tip-off from Naka Chowk area. Investigation revealed that he was not a government official but the big question is what was that fake officer doing there during a VVIP visit?

The Girgaon Metropolitan Magistrate Court has sent the accused to police custody till September 12. The identity card of the MP Secretary has also been found from the accused. Further investigation is on in this matter

Shah visited Lalbaugcha Raja, a prominent Ganesh Pandal, on Monday during his two-day visit to Mumbai. He also visited the residences of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
