Nagpur: The SECR administration has finally closed the Mankapur railway crossing for traffic, causing severe inconvenience to regular passers through it in terms of school-going children, school-buses, walkers and other types of short distance commuters.
It may be mentioned that when the railways tried to close the crossing the local residents had resorted to agitation (dharna), etc. Even Union Surface Transport Minister Nitini Gadkari joined with Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs Dr Milind Mane, Krishna Khopde and others as well as Mayor Pravin Datke, Leader of Ruling Party Dayashankar Tiwari and others concerned with citizens’ problems were required to intervene.
Though senior railway officials were summoned and directed to leave the crossing in the interest of citizens. They did agree to abide by whatever was directed to them, but then the problem sprang back.
Now, the railways have blocked the passage with necessary instructions notified on a pole fixed in the middle of road.
