A court in Ramtek has sent a man to three years of imprisonment after finding guilty of torturing his wife and abetting her suicide. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on the convict. Failure to remit the fine will attract additional six months of jail.
According to prosecution, the woman Sheela Ramlakhan Pillare (35), resident of Bhandarvodi, Ramtek, committed suicide by setting her ablaze on 29.4.2014. Ramtek police, based on a complaint lodged by Sunil Narayan Maind (31), resident of Parshioni, had registered an offence number 83/2014 under Sections 498A, 306 in this connection. Following a sustained investigation, police found that the victim Sheela was being tortured, beaten on daily basis by her husband Ramlakhan Sandeep Pillare (42) over domestic matters. Fed up with the torture, Sheela took the extreme step and committed suicide by pouring kerosene oil on her person and setting herself ablaze in her house. At the time of the incident, the accused Ramlakhan was present in the house but did not make any effort to save his wife and even left the house.
The said case was investigated thoroughly by PSI Sangeeta Killekar of Ramtek Police Station. After gathering unflinching evidence, the case was submitted in the court in Ramtek. The Court found Ramlakhan Pillare guilty as charged and on Friday (December 12) awarded him three years of imprisonment. The Court also slapped a fine of Rs 1000. Failure to remit the fine will attract additional six months of jail.
The prosecution was represented by APP Ram Anvane while Adv Gajbhiye appeared for the accused Ramlakhan Pillare.
