Nagpur: Befriending on social media site should be a cautious step taken with due care. This has proved yet again after a 29-year old man first established friendship with a married woman through social networks (Facebook), clicked her obscene photographs in her house and later tried to blackmail her over threat of making the pictures viral. The accused man not only blackmailed the married woman for money only but raped her often over a period of 15 months by doling out threats of killing her husband. The accused has been booked.
According to police, the accused Rumil Sharma (29), resident of Wardhaman Nagar, between July 15, 2014 and October 24, 2015, offered his friendship to the 29-year old married woman, resident of Sonegaon area, through social networks.
Once befriending her, Rumil visited the woman’s house on one pretext or the other and clicked her in obscene postures. Armed with the nasty stuff, the accused Rumil Sharma started blackmailing the married woman and demanded money with the threat of uploading her pictures on social networks.
Rumil did not limit his blackmailing tactics for money only indulged in more outrageous act. He raped the woman frequently by doling out threats of killing her husband. However, the matter went to cops when the victimized woman approached Sonegaon Police Station and registered a case against the accused.
Lady PSI B S Raut, acting on the woman’s complaint, has booked the accused Rumil Sharma under Sections 376, 388, 506(B) of IPC read with Sub-Section 67 of Information Technology Act and launched a detailed investigation into the case.
