Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar Police in Nagpur on Wednesday booked a 28-year old man, Niranjan Rajendra Nalawade, for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 26-year old woman recruit at the Police Training School (PTS) in Surendra Nagar.
The deceased, Pratiksha Adinath Bhosale, hailed from Kati, Taluka Indapur, district Pune. She was found hanging from the iron ladder attached to a water tank on the terrace of Hostel No.3 at PTS around 5.10 am on July 9 this year. She had been undergoing police training since February 26 as part of the112th batch, which included 1,134 recruits, after being selected as a constable in the Mumbai Police.
Initially, the police had registered the incident as an accidental death case. However, investigations revealed that Pratiksha had been in a relationship with the accused, Niranjan, a resident of Battis Shirala in district Sangli. The investigation uncovered that Niranjan had recently married another woman while Pratiksha was away at PTS Nagpur for her training. Devastated by this, Pratiksha reportedly took her own life.
Following a complaint lodged by Shakuntala Adinath Bhosale, the deceased’s mother, police booked Niranjan under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for his alleged role in abetting the suicide.
