Nagpur: A 36-year old woman was duped the tune of Rs 1 lakh by a man who first promised marriage with her and later demanded the money for cancelling his transfer from Jammu and Kashmir to Nagaland. The accused man neither married with the woman nor returned the money.
The complainant, Sushma Shrikrishna Patil (36), resident of Plot No. 768, New Nandanvan, told police that the accused named Sumit Sirsat doled out marriage promise to her. With this marriage promise, the accused Sumit told Sushma that he needed Rs 1 lakh for cancelling his transfer from Jammu and Kashmir to Nagaland. Sumit told her to deposit the amount in the account of Pratibha Gaekwad in Pune Branch of Bank of Maharashtra. Believing her ‘would-be’ husband, Sushma did what was told by Sumit. But neither the marriage was solemnised nor money returned by the accused Sumit Sirsat which could be a fake name.
Nandanvan Woman PSI Jaybhaye has booked the accused under Section 420 of the IPC and launched an in-depth probe into the matter.
