Nagpur: A man from Odisha, who had stolen Rs 13 lakh cash from his friend in Mumbai, was nabbed by Railway Protection Force (RPF) during a train journey between Wardha and Nagpur. The accused was later handed over to Santa Cruz police in Mumbai.

Out of the stolen cash, the accused Deepak Nayak, who hailed from Baleshwar district in Odisha, had deposited Rs 7 lakh in his own account and accounts of his wife and mother but was nabbed while on way to his hometown.

According to reports, the accused Deepak Nayak had come to Mumbai five years ago with a Bollywood dream. But his dream remained unfulfilled. After all his money was spent, Deepak was struggling to make a living. He learnt he could not get a job as a spot boy, but did not want to leave Mumbai. So he started driving an auto-rickshaw.

The reports further said that while taking passengers, he came in contact with a pub manager, Kunal (name changed). They became good friends and rented a room together. Kunal trusted Deepak and shared everything with him. Recently, Kunal brought Rs 13 lakh cash home as he wanted to buy a room. Deepak saw the cash and hatched a plan to steal it. He stole the cash on August 19.

The accused Deepak wanted to return to his hometown but thought it was risky to travel with so much cash. So he deposited Rs 2 lakh each in his and his mother’s account and another Rs 3 lakh in his wife’s account. He bought a mangalsutra for Rs 91,000, also spent some money on other items and kept the remaining Rs 4.11 lakh cash with himself and boarded Geetanjali Express to go to Odisha.

Meanwhile, Kunal found both Deepak and cash missing from his room. He approached Santa Cruz police and lodged a complaint. PI Dattatray Khade and his team tracked the location of Deepak at the railway station and checked CCTV footage. They spotted Deepak boarding Geetanjali Express. Officials alerted the RPF whose personnel nabbed in the train between Wardha and Nagpur. He was taken to Mumbai and handed over to Santa Cruz police for further action.
