Nagpur: Additional Sessions Judge O P Jaiswal in Nagpur on Thursday awarded 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine of Rs 2,000 to 55-year-old Baliram Tulsiram Irpachi, a resident of Sherdi, Tehsil Saoner, for raping his 14-year-old neighbour and impregnating her.
The court convicted Irpachi for sexually assaulting a Standard IX girl multiple times and impregnating her in the year 2019 after the charges were proved against him.
According to the prosecution, the victim was living in Saoner with her parents and brothers. In April 2019, her parents and brother had gone to a relative’s house. The girl was alone. A labourer, Irpachi entered the house and sexually assaulted her. Between April 2019 and August 2019, he committed penetrative sexual assault on her multiple times. On November 16, 2019, the victim’s parents took her to GMCH Nagpur for check-up as she had started vomiting. During her medical examination, she was found 27 weeks pregnant.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Saoner Police registered a case under Sections 376, 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), read with Sections 4, 5(j)(2), 5(l), 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, against Irpachi and arrested him.
Assistant Police Inspector Sonali Raskar investigated the case and filed a chargesheet against accused Irpachi. During the trials, the court examined 10 prosecution witnesses and medical evidence. As the charges were substantiated against Irpachi, the court sentenced him to 20-year RI for the offence under Section 4 of the POCSO Act with a fine of Rs 2,000. For the offence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, the court awarded 20-year RI with a fine of Rs 2,000. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
