Nagpur: In a first deadly accident on Ram Jhula beside Nagpur railway station, an elderly man and his grand son were killed while his wife was injured when a speeding ambulance hit the two-wheeler they were riding.
The deceased, Vinayakrao Vasudeorao Marshettiwar (57) and his grand son Siddharth alias Bhalchandra Dnyandeep Deshmukh (5) were the residents of Plot No. 9, Subhash Nagar. Vinayakrao’s wife Nalini (50) was also injured in the mishap.
Vinayakrao had gone to Itwari with Nalini and Siddharth on a Honda Activa (MH-40/BH-9923) to make purchases for his son’s engagement ceremony. While returning home around 3 pm, a speeding ambulance(MH-35/K2597)coming from wrong side on Ram Jhula hit them killing Vinayakrao and Siddharth on the spot and injuring Nalini.She was rushed to Mayo Hospital.
Staff from Ganeshpeth Police arrived at the spot. Cops sent the bodies of Vinayakrao and Siddharth to the same hospital for autopsy. Ganeshpeth Police arrested ambulance driver Manoj Kamlaprasad Tiwari (47), a resident of Gondia,into custody.
After recording the statement of Nalini, police registered an offence under Sections279,304(A)of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 119,177and 184 of Motor Vehicle Act, against Manoj Tiwari.
