Nagpur: Beltarodi Police have arrested a man for orchestrating an offensive video campaign aimed at estranging his ex-girlfriend from her husband while attempting to claim a share from their property.

The 43-year-old jilted lover masterminded a revenge porn ploy by sending his ex-girlfriend’s nude images and explicit chats to 11 persons, including her husband and half-a-dozen colleagues. He used pen drives sent via post to avoid detection. The accused, who was reading all the Whatsapp chats of the survivor by surreptitiously linking it to his desktop, had become jealous of her closeness to a man other than her husband, and also wanted to avenge the loss in their joint multi-level marketing business.

The unidentified accused is a resident of Hawrapeth, Bhagwan Nagar. According to police, the accused was in a romantic relationship with the woman back in 2015. His motive was focused on her wealth. Planning to manipulate the situation in his favour, he tried to coerce the woman into divorcing her husband. He intended to make financial gains from her husband’s property. When the girlfriend resisted these tactics, the accused resorted to more sinister measures, said police.

He purchased 50 pen drives and uploaded his objectionable photographs and videotapes featuring himself and the woman, his girlfriend. He dispatched the pen drives in couriers to her relatives, and acquaintances. Upon discovering the plot, the woman lodged a complaint against the accused. The police have registered a case against the accused.

It took cops three months to crack the case.

They had become suspicious because of the culprit’s excessive blinking during interrogation. He was arrested by Beltarodi police on Saturday. Police are seizing the cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices from the residence of the former boyfriend.

The case was registered in October last year. There was regular follow-up by CP Amitesh Kumar, who tasked DCP Cyber Archit Chandak and Senior Inspector of Beltarodi police station Mukund Kawade. The senior officials were supervising the case as it related to women modesty and cyber security.

Chandak’s team of cyber experts and Kawade’s detection branch joined hands to zero down upon the culprit. He was posing as one of the innocent colleagues of the survivor who too had received one of the envelopes containing a pen drive.
