Nagpur: A man murdered his drunkard younger brother by pushing him in a well on July 14 night. The accused tied a big boulder around the victim’s waist to ensure he was drowned to death and also intended to destroy evidence. New Kamptee cops have reportedly arrested the accused and his one accomplice in this connection.
Body of the deceased Ravi Ganpat Kadu (38) was discovered in the well at a farm owned by Premchand Khot’s at Ghorpad on Friday (July 23) morning, At that time, New Kamptee police had registered a case of accidental death and started investigations.

The probe revealed that Ravi was a habitual alcoholic. His wife left him and married another person five years ago. He used to create scenes and hurl abuses at family members including his mother after consuming liquor. Last week, Ravi came home in an inebriated condition. Ravi picked up quarel with his elder brother Surendra Ganpat Kadu (40), resident of Ghorpad, and thrashed him. Subsequently, Surendra called his accomplice Rohit Naresh Mule (19), resident of Kawtha. Both Surendra and Rohit forced Ravi to sit in Rohit’s bike and took him to the farm of Khot at Ghorpad. They tied a big boulder around Ravi’s waist and pushed him in the well with the intention to kill him.
The farm owner noticed the body floating in the well on Friday morning and he alerted the police. Staff of New Kamptee police station rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Initially, the police registered a case of accidental death. During investigation, the cops got a tip-off from a villager who told the police that he had seen Surendra, Ravi and an unidentified man going somewhere on a motorcycle late in the night. The police immediately picked Surendra and his accomplice who have confessed for committing the murder during police interrogation.
An offence under Sections 302 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered by New Kamptee police. Further investigation is on.
