Man rapes mentally unwell woman in Chandrapur, 4 others shoot video

Nagpur/Chandrapur: There seems to be no end to violence against women. Even as protests were taking place all over the country after the horrible crimes in Kolkata, and Badlapur, reports of sexual assaults and abuse on women are pouring in from different parts of the country. The brutality of such crimes happening at heart numbing regularity must even more forcefully strengthen society’s resolve to not let such crimes go unpunished.

A mentally disturbed married woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 27-year old man in Nagbhid Tehsil of Chandrapur district. Nagbhid police have arrested the rape accused along with four others who filmed the woman’s ordeal and made the video viral. Cops have also detained a 17-year-old boy in this connection.

According to reports, the prime-accused Harinarayan Manre of Nagbhid allegedly took the mentally disturbed woman into a toilet at Nagbhid bus-stop forcibly and sexually assaulted her on the night of August 12, even as his friends filmed the incident. After 11-days of the incident, a friend of Manre circulated the video on social-media and it went viral within hours. After coming to know about the viral video, cops swung into action and identified the victim woman, who is mentally unwell owing to family problems.

Immediately, different police teams were formed to search the accused in Nagbhid tehsil and other places. The cops traced the prime-accused Manre along with other four co-accused. Police have booked the accused under sections 64 (2) (c), 70 (1), 87, 126 (2), 3 (5) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 along with sections 67, 67 (a) Information and Technology Act. Further investigation into the crime is being conducted by Nagbhid Police. Police have appealed to people not to share objectionable video made by the accused.
